Iphone & Watch aren't giving alerts together

I don't always have my watch on, I only bought it for the ECG, I still have 2weeks before deciding to keep it. I'm frustrated because I need to hear on both- text and call alerts, as well as my Ring Camera alerts. I need to have my phone go into lock mode after a certain time, and I need that for the watch as well.

Why can't Apple allow alerts/sounds for calls, texts, Ring, when one or both devices are on alert? I'm missing very important texts, calls, Ring notifications.

Thx

One of the things Apple made a big deal out of when they first launched the Watch was that it would help cut down on notifications and make them more unobtrusive to the people around you. You can agree or disagree but that was part of their thinking.

The way notifications work if you have a Watch:

iPhone locked/watch locked - notifications sound on the iPhone

iPhone locked/watch unlocked - notifications sound on the watch

iPhone unlocked/watch unlocked - notifications sound on the iPhone

You're never going to get them on both devices. However, if your watch isn't on your wrist, it's locked so it won't get the notifications. They will sound on your phone.
