Some auto manufacturers do have a setting on their head units that prevent Bluetooth Audio from playing automatically when connected. Without an option to pause Bluetooth Audio from the car, the phone has to start playing music when Bluetooth is connected. You will notice on these vehicles that the Music continues to play even if you are listening to FM or other source. This is because they are unable to pause the Bluetooth Audio. If it did not do this, then you would have to manually start playing Music from your phone when Bluetooth Audio is selected on your vehicles head unit and that would defeat the purpose of having a hands-free device. This is the way it works for all devices.
You can use the Shortcut app on your phone to pause music when it is connected to your car's bluetooth.
- Open Shortcuts app
- Tap "Automation" at the bottom center of the screen
- Tap "Create Personal Automation"
- Tap "Bluetooth"
- Tap "Choose" under Device and select your car
- Tap "Done"
- Tap "Next"
- Tap "Add Action"
- Tap "Media"
- Scroll down to the Playback section and tap "Play/Pause"
- Tap "Play/Pause" on the top of this screen and choose "Pause"
- Tap "Next"
- Tap "Done"
There is also the additional option on iOS 17 to switch off Notify to Run, so it will run automatically. You will have to manually start your Music from the phone after connecting to your car as the stereo will not automatically start playing it when you choose Bluetooth as the music source.
