how can i stop apple music from auto playing?

Whenever I get in my car Apple Music starts playing. It’s very irritating because I listen to podcasts on YouTube.

I googled this situation and the only result I was able to find is to disable my Bluetooth on my phone, but APPLE, that is not an acceptable answer just because you all forgot to build in a way to shut it off.

im a diabetic. My sensor in my arm communicates with my freaking phone via Bluetooth.

Some auto manufacturers do have a setting on their head units that prevent Bluetooth Audio from playing automatically when connected. Without an option to pause Bluetooth Audio from the car, the phone has to start playing music when Bluetooth is connected. You will notice on these vehicles that the Music continues to play even if you are listening to FM or other source. This is because they are unable to pause the Bluetooth Audio. If it did not do this, then you would have to manually start playing Music from your phone when Bluetooth Audio is selected on your vehicles head unit and that would defeat the purpose of having a hands-free device. This is the way it works for all devices.

You can use the Shortcut app on your phone to pause music when it is connected to your car's bluetooth.

  • Open Shortcuts app
  • Tap "Automation" at the bottom center of the screen
  • Tap "Create Personal Automation"
  • Tap "Bluetooth"
  • Tap "Choose" under Device and select your car
  • Tap "Done"
  • Tap "Next"
  • Tap "Add Action"
  • Tap "Media"
  • Scroll down to the Playback section and tap "Play/Pause"
  • Tap "Play/Pause" on the top of this screen and choose "Pause"
  • Tap "Next"
  • Tap "Done"

There is also the additional option on iOS 17 to switch off Notify to Run, so it will run automatically. You will have to manually start your Music from the phone after connecting to your car as the stereo will not automatically start playing it when you choose Bluetooth as the music source.

this never happened on my android.

Interesting that it did not happen with your Android phone. Did you have to start Music manually from your phone when you wanted to listen to it through your car stereo? Normally if you are listening to FM and switch the car stereo to Bluetooth Audio, then it will be playing the music from your phone and it does not stop the music if you switch back to FM. It just doesn't play through the radio any longer. When you switch back to Bluetooth Audio, then if will be much farther along your playlist and does not continue where you left off. Curious how it worked for you before.

Also in my car if I shut it off while listening to FM, when I start the car back up it goes back to playing FM and will only play the music from my phone when I change the audio on the stereo to Bluetooth.
