No startup disk visible on desktop

My iMac is running on Sonoma. When I installed the most recent version, my Plural Eyes app would not work anymore. I (foolishly) tried to downgrade the OS, and finally got into the version that was originally om my Mac. I could start up the computer but there was a message that a disk (must have been the startup disk) could not be used because it contained something that could not breed by this OS.

Finally I managed to get Sonoma back, but there was no startup disk anymore on the desktop. To fix this, I tried disk utility as was advised. Had disk utility check all disks with the name Macintosh HD (which was the name of my startup disk). I'm afraid I messed up with the user. It seems I divided my startup disk in some way. Can anybody please help? Thanks

  1. Open Finder. You can find it in the Dock.
  2. Click on "Finder" in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  3. Select "Preferences" from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the Finder preferences window, click on the "General" tab.
  5. Under the section titled "Show these items on the Desktop," look for the checkbox next to "Hard disks."
  6. Make sure the checkbox is ticked. This will enable the internal drive icon to appear on your desktop.
  7. Close the Finder preferences window.

Your internal drive icon, usually named "Macintosh HD" by default, should now be visible on your desktop.
