I'm trying to create a new Recovery Key through my MacOS System Settings. I get an Apple ID pop-up window saying "Apple ID wants to make changes. Enter your password to allow this." So I enter my Apple ID password (which works fine elsewhere in Apple), and the pop-up window shakes in refusual of my password.
I'm stuck. What do I do now?

Have you tried the Mac password instead of the Apple ID password? Sometimes, it’s confusing which password to use when dealing with your Apple ID.
You are welcome. I admit that I had been confused by this for a long time; For instance, just for logging in to the Apple Communities (which uses your Apple ID) on the Mac; my Apple ID password would never work. One day I just tried my Mac password and it just worked!

It sure looked like they were asking for the Apple ID password.
I'd been reluctant to try my Mac password earlier, for fear of getting totally locked out.
