How do you get a refund or credit on a purchase made with Apple Pay when returning an item?

The merchant will refund any monies due directly to your payment method (debit or credit card). Apple Pay is not really involved in refunds. The merchant has everything in their system to refund the monies. All they will request is the last four digits of the card used as the payment method. The card number is in your Apple Wallet and will differ from the last four digits of the physical Apple Card.
