Apple Pay refund with updated credit card details

I paid for a product using Apple Pay, shortly after I upgraded to a newer Iphone and therefore my Apple Pay details on the credit card I used to pay for the product are now different. I have now returned the product and I'm expecting a full refund, the merchant has issued the refund based on the details from the transaction. Will this refund find its way to my original credit card even when the virtual Apple Paid number is totally different? Please advice as it is a considerable amount. Thanks!

Refunds are not processed through Apple Pay and will have no reference to it. Refunds are processed by the merchant and are sent through the payment network (Mastercard, Visa, etc.) directly to the issuing bank.

Refunds, once the merchant actually sends the funds, are credited to your account in 7 to 10 business days.
