My Time Machine backup is not backing up, not connected to device... help.

Hello

I got a notice my Time Machine has not backed up in 2 weeks. Not sure why this is happening as I have not changed anything in settings or elsewhere.

MacBook Pro Sonoma 14.1.1

Message says "Backup disk could not be found".

Needs to be connected to the disk.

How do I do this - what disk?

Thanks for any help

so you needed to have connected an external drive to initiate Time machine backups. That is the drive in question.

it may have become disconnected. Physically disconnect it, and then re-connect it. if time machine picks it up and starts a backup, you are Done.

if not, launch disk Utility and repair disk. If it comes clean, great. If not, time machine can not use it.

if any issues along the way, let readers know what error messages and problems you are encountering. Exact wording of error messages is important.

Hi Grant

Thanks for answering... we have been traveling the last couple days.

So, the same thing is now happening to my husbands new Mac Air laptop.

Both of us were always able to back up to our external drives while living in Lisbon for the past 3 years. We also were able to back up in February while in Spain but we both were not able to back up while in Sicily, we thought perhaps we had a weak connection but now neither of us can back up in Belgium.

The pop up box asking permission to use the external does not show up when we plug it in on either computer.

We are using the same plug adaptor and USBc adaptor that we have been using with no problems previously. We use the USBc adaptor for other devices with no issues.

Any thoughts on this? At least we both have Back Blaze but still would like that extra layer of protection.

Thanks - Julien
