If I spilt water on my magic keyboard is there any way I can get it working again?

I spilt a small glass of water on my Apple Magic Keyboard and now the keys in the row Q through to O won’t respond.

The moment it happened I mopped up the water and put the keyboard in the airing cupboard for a few days. I wasn’t too worried because it was just water and not a sticky, fizzy drink. However its been a week and the keys Q-O still aren’t responding & because the keyboard is one piece of aluminium (or whatever it is), it can’t be taken apart. Is there any chance I can get this working properly again?

It's probably not repairable. You can find a teardown on iFixit but I think you will see that even if you succeed in opening it there's nothing repairable inside and you probably won't be able to reassemble it.

Although I haven't spilled any liquids on keyboards, on two occasions when some keys went bad on a magic keyboard I was unsuccessful getting them to work again and had to replace the keyboards.

You did mean a Magic Keyboard, right? Not the one built into your MBPro ...

You can find all the Apple keyboards on eBay, even the first gen Magic Kbd. That's where I usually get my keyboards; just be careful about the stated condition, the seller's reputation and whether or not the item is returnable.

Ah nuts. Okay, thanks for your reply. Yeah, I meant the Magic Keyboard. I think Apple's on its second or third revision of the Magic Keyboard now aren't they? This is a first gen one from 2012. I'm so gutted, its been my favourite keyboard ever (started out on a Commodore 64), as its been so quiet and fluid to type on, and now fluid has done it in.

I thought it might be safe because it was a water spill rather than say coca cola or beer. Im going to put it back in the airing cupboard for a few weeks seeing as I've got nothing to lose and check out replacement keyboards online.

Yes, will do thanks. I got this Magic Keyboard from Gumtree so it was second-hand to begin with, but it was pristine too. Its given several years faultless service. I'm just annoyed that its so easy to kill. Makes me want to consider something a bit more resilient next time.
