How to find unauthorized Charges on my Apple Card

Did fraud just occur on my Apple Card?

I authorized my checking account as source for Apple Card payments. All previous payments have been successfully scheduled and made on time using my Bank's checking account. This month Apple Card gained unauthorized access to my Bank's savings account which had insufficient funds for payment. As a result my bank declined the over payment and Apple Card/Goldman Sach's charged me $50.02.

According to agent:

"After reviewing your account the recent payments made on 03/29/2024 failed due to insufficient funds using the savings account, the payment made on 03/31/2024 was cancelled using the checking account. You are able to resubmit your payment within wallet."

No one has explained the meaning of this phrase "03/31/2024 was cancelled using the checking account."

Nothing was canceled- I still owed my outstanding credit charges.

I paid it immediately - 4/2 after alert that my prescheduled payment was not made correctly.

Goldman Sachs states: "when submitting your payment within wallet the bank account can be switched before confirming the payment ."

I did not switch my accounts - it was set up specifically to be drawn from the checking.

"Please make sure your IOS is updated at all times to avoid any wallet app glitches that can cause this issue ."

My IOS was updated... BUT does this mean - bank user beware- glitches happen??? and they cost YOU $50.02?

The real questions are, did you ever use the savings account as a payment source for the monthly statement? If not, the mistake was more likely on your end or your banks end. Goldman would have no way of learning the account number of the savings account unless it was provided to them.

The bank could have made a mistake in applying the withdrawal, but that’s a rare occurrence.

Is the savings account in your Apple Wallet and could it have been selected as a payment source?

Here’s all the possible payment sources I have for my Apple Card account.

No. I'm not sure exactly what occurred. And they were unable to help me sort it out.

I had only one account set up for payment- my checking.

There is only one person on this card/account- me.

It was /has been set up as auto pay- the whole amount.

I have no idea why there were two payment dates.

I have no idea how the checking was "cancelled" as it was set up as one and done.

Below is Conversation/Response from agent when asked how this all could have happened and how to prevent it from happening again:

Apple:

based off your account notations there is no indication that an specialist cancelled the payment with the checking account therefor could only be cancelled within your wallet .

Donna Martinez:

Are you suggesting I cancelled the payment?

Apple:

Without an payment being cancelled by an Apple Card specialist the only other way is within your device .

Donna Martinez:

Well… I haven’t cancelled anything. And if it was done by accident -unintentionally- I need to know how it’s not done again. The intent was to pay via checking with sufficient funds available and not the other one…and at no time did I cancel anything. I need to know how to prevent any error like that again

Looking at my wallet it states scheduled payments are from checking, repeats payment due date

So how did it pull from an empty savings account…and result in an overdraft and added interest?

Apple:

Reviewing your account there is no further action required , when submitting your payment within wallet the bank account can be switched before confirming the payment .

Donna Martinez:

That statement does not make sense. Who switched the account causing me an added $50 payment of interest

Especially when the correct account as stated was fully funded and capable of meeting my CC debt

Apple:

As stated above unfortunately these payments were submitting within your wallet app to which we do not have any control over .

Donna Martinez:

Ok… who do I contact to assure this never happens again

Apple:

I am sorry about the inconvenience that this may have caused !

Currently your account is all set for scheduled payments using the checking account so there would be no further action required at this time .

Donna Martinez:

Yes- it had always been been set that way-

Apple:

Please make sure your IOS is updated at all times to avoid any wallet app glitches that can cause this issue .

Donna Martinez:

There is further action required however- I need to know how some gremlin had access to an account that did not have sufficient funds and caused me $50+

¿¡Glitches?! Seriously? I keep my phone/app updated

I need help with this payment-

Is this fraud on the part of Apple?

I did not authorize payment from savings. All previous payments have been from checking

Apple:

Hello. My name is Deneshia, an Apple Card Supervisor with Goldman Sachs Bank. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Apple Card account. Please allow me a moment to review previous chats and account information.

Your issue has been escalated to management. Please allow 1-10 days for resolution

...End...

And so I wait.

In the meantime I remain concerned that somehow my other accounts are accessed without permission or by error. And if error - I need to know how NOT to do that again.
