CarPlay volume control not working

I have had a Pioneer w8600nex installed in my car for over 3 years now. The unit has had zero changes, software updates, or firmware updates. When using wired Carplay, the cables that I've been using have all been the same.


Sometime during the series of iOS17 updates, my iPhone 15 Pro (currently running 17.4.1) running CarPlay lost the ability to regularly control the volume when CarPlay is active. I can control the guidance volume on the Pioneer deck, but the other volume adjustment (podcast/music/etc) will be stuck and remain unchanged despite trying to increase or decrease it. Very annoying not to be able to adjust the volume.


I end up turning CarPlay on/off from Settings -> General until I luck out and the volume function works. This occurs in both wired and wireless CarPlay, so it's not a matter of the cable being bad.


How can I solve this problem?

Same exact issue here occurring very frequently with iOS 17.4.1 and iPhone 12 Pro with the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX model. Occasionally restarting car, taking off Pioneer faceplate and putting it back on works. Sometimes restarting the iPhone will get it to start working again. I thought it was a problem with the Pioneer receiver originally or a loose wire but seems to be some type of software CarPlay issue. Not sure of any solution.
