Certain mp4 files play without audio on macbook pro

I have an M1 chip macBook pro running 14.2.1.

I recently recorded some video on an off-brand action camera. These

mp4 files play without audio in QuickTime player, Davinci Resolve,

and iMovie, but play with audio in VLC and when uploaded to youtube.

Other mp4 videos recorded with a real goPro play audio just fine in both

QuickTime and Davinci Resolve.

Based on suggestions from Reddit I attempted to use

Shutter Encoder to convert the mp4 files to .mov with PCM 24-bit audio.

This created heavily distorted audio, so I tried every other type of

audio available on Shutter Encoder with the same problem every time.

Any suggestions for how to fix this? I need to edit the audio and

would like to use Resolve or iMovie to do so, but am open to other

free video editing software if necessary.
