fwiw i've used apple products for decades and am intending to list a small general printing business ive owned for decades on apple business connect so it appears in apple maps.au (i think thats the main benefit?)
for what reasons should i not use my personal apple account ID to log into apple business direct ? (or should i have a seperate apple account ID for apple business connect?)

That, and the fact that this really appears to be a proper business and not just a semi-hobby, I would go with a separate ID. Again, I don't know much about Apple IDs in a business context but if this ID is also used as a way to contact you, I would not want that open to everybody in the world with an account used for private reasons too.
I’d go separate. Mixing stuff together, and transitioning business and personal stuff, can get messy.
I have no experience with Apple's business products. As for having two IDs, this can make sense if you wish to keep that part of your use of Apple products completely separate from your personal use. As if you have to completely different personas. Consider the security (having one part of your existence completely separate from your personal one), possible financial (if you pay for apps, would it make sense to keep these separate?), and other considerations. You can do a limited amount of sharing with Family Sharing --> What is Family Sharing? - Apple Support
For most people it definitely makes sense not to have multiple accounts. You can't merge purchases, for example, nor be signed into a device with two IDs at the same time (if you want exception details I can provide more).
