Using Non-Apple Cable on MacBook Air M2 2022

Hello all ^

I have recently bought myself a MacBook Air M2 laptop and I want to connect my guitar and my amp to the MacBook via Type C-Mini USB cable. Since Apple does not produce this cable, I am thinking of using a non-Apple cable. Does it have any cons to use a cable by another brand (Ugreen, for example) in the long term?

By the way, I already have a charging cable and adapter by Apple, so I will use the non-Apple cable only for data transfer.

MacBook Air, macOS 14.4

You did, and again, it shouldn't matter which brand ... although, it is worth only using "quality" brands to avoid issues. A non-Apple brand, like UGREEN, should work perfectly for this purpose. Anker is another. I also would suggest that you check out OWC as well. FWIW, I have used products from all three of these, without any issues at all.

No problem with using another cable, just make sure it is good quality from a respected manufacturer. Poor quality cables can not only have performance problems using thin wires, but a frayed cable can also cause damage to your hardware. There is a wide price range you will find when searching for a cable and in some cases there is a reason for that.
