Wondering which MacOS version you are using , and whether an update may help.
Also ... where is the microphone not working ... in a particular app ... online videos ... everywhere.
Eg: Tried microphone works in Voice memos ?
A few possible troubleshooting checks: If not already done:
You may want to check : the volume is not somehow set so low seems it's not working :
: A focus / Do Not Disturb is not turned on
: Mac is not muted (eg: FaceTime etc.)
Check for mic. access allowed: Control access to the microphone on Mac - Apple Support
Check : Change the sound input settings on Mac - Apple Support
Check / change / which settings in use : Use Mic Modes on your Mac - Apple Support
