New M2 MacBook Air how-to remove lock screen
Just setting up new MacBook switched from PC YIKES! how do I remove the need to use password on lockscreen?

Open System Settings and scroll down to the Lock Screen option. There you can change the "Require password...." to Never. Now you won't have to enter a password if you step away from the computer long enough for the screensaver to start or if the screen turns off. Since this makes your computer less secure you will have to enter your password to prove it is you requesting this and then choose whether to continue using iCloud and the password keychain.
Since you have a new MBA you also have the option of unlocking your computer with your fingerprint. Just below the Lockscreen option is Touch ID settings. Set up a finger or two and then select the option to unlock with Touch ID. Now you will only have to sign in when you boot up your computer. Waking from sleep will require just a touch on the finger sensor
