Photos not exporting full size

JPEGs in the iOS Photos app are full size; when exporting, they are a fraction of original size. All export settings appear to be correct. See the attached screenshots. A 9MB photo exports to 721KB

Can anyone assist?

That is very strange. But the original image, taken with your Canon camera has a very unusual file size for a JPEG with a very small pixel size, just 2336 × 1558 pixel. With such a small width and height the jpeg should not be larger the 2 MB at most. Has the image been cropped, before you exported it? Or edited with an external editor, that is saving the edited version as a huge TIFF? That would explain, why the image in Photos is showing a huge file size and the that the exported version has a smaller file size. You may want to export the original image file with "File > Export > Export unmodified original" to check the size.

Weird. When I export one 9.9 MB jpeg that's been edited, it becomes 4.4MB-- but it had lots of sky, so compression was very efficient. Another, a sports picture, was 12.2MB and it became 12.1MB. So it's all about compression. The picture you show has lots of solid background, so it should compress a bit, but I'm totally surprised at a factor of over 10! I agree, something sounds odd. I also tried exporting to iCloud disk, but that made no difference.

The dimensions are the same-- when you blow up the 700KB version, how does it look? Do you see lots of difference?
