There are lots of virus protection and scanning software available, and if you do research to make sure that your virus detecting software is not, in fact, a scam and going to add more viruses, it should be easier to find a reliable, free program.

I hope this is helpful! (I would tell you what I use, but unfortunately I can’t find it.)

Although Readers here love MalwareBytes extensive collection of virus-like patterns to scan for, what is NOT recommended is setting that package (or ANY package) to scan your files non-stop. That unrelenting scanning ruins performance for no benefit whatsoever.
