defective Magic Keyboard with Touch ID

I've been an outspoken advocate of Apple products ever since my first 512 in 1986, so it is with a heavy heart that I have to report my disappointment over one of hundreds of Apple products I've enjoyed since then. I am aware of an older text string about defective keyboards of several laptops and Apple's refusal to remedy this, declaring the issue to be merely cosmetic, as if that is unimportant and as if the user somehow caused the issue by misuse. It turns out the accessory keyboards have the same defective printing of the white digits on black keys. That is, the black paint which forms the digits against the white plastic background chips off with normal use. Odd that a company founded in quality can't figure out how to do something Smith Corona managed many years ago. How many old typewriters are missing their digits, so many years later? So, I took my keyboard to my local Apple Store expecting an associate to remedy the situation, only to find that it takes a genius to see the problem, so I would have to return to the store later in the afternoon to meet with such a genius. All that only to learn that, although many customers have come in with this issue, I had only two options: 1 to buy a refurbished one at a 20% discount with a 3 month warranty or 2 buy a new one for $199 with a one year warranty. If the original one is any indicator, the 3 month window isn't long enough for the defect to appear and the new one I bought will start chipping before the year is up. I'll have to set a calendar event to take it in for replacement before that anniversary is upon me or I'll have to buy another one for $199. Actually, my disappointment stems from Apple's posture that this defect is cosmetic, as if that is of no importance. If the printing of the keys is unimportant, why do they print them in the first place. They could all just be white and we could all guess at what result might stem from depressing each one. I'm not a hunt and peck typist, but I do need to check the keyboard now and then since many of the non-alpha keys are used infrequently. Any good advice out there?
