Apple Watch Battery Draining suddenly after Software Update

They say everything is alright, but the watch is draining to fast.

So many people are complaining about this...

Count me in on this. I was getting the better part of two days, but now just a few hours.

Same here. After last update the watch can hardly make it through the day.

I unpaired the watch, shut off both phone and watch for a few minutes, then re-paired the watch. This fixed the problem for me.

An Apple support agent today told me that complaints about Watch battery drain are the major reason why people are calling in to complain. It is a "known issue." Hallelujah.

Fact not in evidence: that I, or anyone else in this thread, added third party software to the watch before this problem developed. In fact, I did not. It developed after an OS upgrade.

Did you force restart both devices before pairing them again?

Me too. iPhone 11 Pro Max updated last night - today Apple Watch 7 battery drained from 100% to dead in 5-6 hours. Not much chance of me closing any rings - or being woken up by my alarm in the morning.

Joining the many who got the latest iPhone update last night 4/11/2024 and now my Apple watch battery doesn't even last a day!! I've had the watch for a year and it always lasted a full two days before it needed charging and now it barely gets by on a few hours. WTH??? Certainly not buying a new watch!

Updated to 17.4.1 last night. Watch at 100% when woke up. By late morning was almost dead. I can normally go all day with workouts and all the regular activities and still have battery life. This is def linked to update. Watch iOS to 10.1 also stuck in “preparing”.

My watch is acting this way and it's not even on watchOS 10.4! I'm still on the old OS, but new iOS. Seems to be hit or miss. My husband has the updated iOS, old watchOS, but his watch is holding charge as normal. So weird!

Same. After the phone update suddenly Watch went to 10%! Charged it up and then 3 hours later it’s at 10% again! Yes and the update is stuck on preparing. So glad of this forum was thinking I’d have to take it back, it was brand new in January. Hope this gets fixed asap, it’s too expensive to not be useable!!!

I have been having the same issues as others are describing. Woke up to a dead watch even though it was fully charged 8 hours prior, charged it to 100% and it was down to less than 10% four hours later. Charged it again and tried to get it to update and it has been “preparing” with the watch attached to the charger, and charging while waiting for the update to finish. I got tired of waiting so I started wearing my watch again. Within an hour it lost 15% battery life.
