Mac OS X 14.4.1 - HDMI connected ASUS VE278 external monitor constantly blinking every 5 seconds

I've been using Mac OS X for years, but a week ago I installed 14.4.1 and I have been constantly been having trouble with my ASUS VE278 external monitor since. It constantly goes to a black screen every 5 seconds, and then will go back to displaying my machine. I did not see this issue on 14.4.0.

I have this issue connecting this monitor via HDMI directly to a M1 Mac Mini or to a M3 laptop via a USB-C Anker Bridge.

I've tried pretty much everything - unplugging the monitor from the wall, unplugging the HDMI and plugging it back in, turning off the monitor, changing Display settings - nothing seems to work - the problem returns after every reboot.

Any ideas? I've checked for duplicate Colorsync Profiles, turned off Night shift - would be willing try anything.
