Scribble not working right with Pages after update

I recently updated my iPadOS to 17.4.1 and my Pages app to version 14. I am a book editor and use this app often with my Apple Pencil to edit documents, using Scribble to delete text and type comments quickly with the swipe function. Before the update, the small keyboard would stay open, making it easy for me to tap a spot on the document and quickly add a comma or delete an extra character, but now the keyboard disappears after each keystroke and I have to reopen it over and over again. This is not convenient at all, but I can't figure out how to make it stay up on the screen. Additionally, when I try to use the swipe function to replace a word, it freezes and I have to restart the program. I've tried reinstalling, restarting my iPad, disconnecting my Bluetooth and turning it back on, but nothing seems to work. This has worked fine for me for months and I don't understand why this would suddenly change—can I fix it somehow? Thank you!
