Restore the files from your backup.
Sure, that is what Time Machine is for, however if the files were deleted AND the Trash was emptied and there is no Time Machine backup then they are gone. It's kind of like the barn being burned down with the horse in it, no way you are getting that horse back.
This is why it is CRITICAL that all computers are backed up very regularly!
Let me clarify.
On my iMac I have DiskDrill. I have been able to retrieve files that were deleted from some of my external Hard drives. DiskDrill on the iMac brings deleted files back.
Now I want to retrieve any deleted files on my old MacBookPro's hard drive. DiskDrill doesn't work on the MacBookPro. That's why I'm asking for ideas. Thanks

In other words, the barn burned down with the horse inside it … and when the firefighters (Disk Drill) entered the remains of the barn, they couldn't find any indication of a living horse?!?
