Cursor in visible window only

I upgraded to Sonoma 14.4.1 on my 15 in. MacBook Pro two days ago. All seemed well until I enlarged my view [ccommand / option / +), which shrinks the visible area -- to which my cursor will not go beyond. I cannot use the cursor to shift from one part of the desktop to another, which is making the accessibility of my laptop rather INaccessible!

I have read a few of the Accessibility issue responses, but they are not describing this inconvenience of always having to revert to full screen to shift from one part of the desktop to another, or from one app to another, or to the dashboard or hot corners The cursor is restricted to only the visible area.

I can scroll up and down using the trackpad, just not move sideways -- and if I am in the middle of a particular tab or window, I am confined in the middle until I enlarge the visible area (command / option / –)

Please advise. Thanks.
