I have an iCloud account to back up photos and videos from my phone because I don’t wanna lose pictures of my kids. I got a notification that my 50 gig iCloud account is full. I looked at the usage and it’s 99.99% photos. Then I looked at the storage on my phone. and it’s only 4 GB of photos. I thought they were supposed to be mirrored?
If you sync using iCloud, your images on your devices will sync to all devices logged into iCloud. However, if you optimize photos, lower-resolution versions are saved on your iDevice and originals in iCloud. Regardless, iCloud is not a backup but a synchronization service. You may wish to retain an external backup just in case you accidetnly delete a file and wish to recover it.
