AirPod 2nd gen won’t update Firmware 2D15

I lost my AirPod 2nd gen before Covid. Recently found it but it connects to Bluetooth then drops it. Can’t play any music. Trying to update firmware to see if it’ll solve my problem. I’ve kept it next to my phone, plugged in, but it won’t update. I’ve tried leaving my AirPod case open, nada. My 1st gen AirPods connects to my iOS17.4.1 iPhone 11 just fine so I know it’s not a phone or iOS problem. Help!!!
