Incoming call on Bluetooth headphones changing actual ringtone

While using Bluetooth headphones with my IPhone XR (iOS 17.4.1), the actual ringtone has started changing when I get an incoming call.

It begins with a normal ring (2-3Xs), then changes to a repeated (and very annoying) voice saying an unintelligible word. This happens with both identified and unidentified calls.

I've checked all the settings that I can think of that would affect this, but I'm at my wits end. Any help would be most appreciated.

I observe a problem when I am using the phone to listen to music via Bluetooth-connected audio equipment. I have experienced this problem with Sennheiser PXC-550 and PXC-500 Mk II headphones, as well as Sony WF-1000XM4 and WF-1000XM3 earbuds. I can be listening to music. My handset receives the call, and I can hear the "ring tone" over my headphones/earbuds to alert me to the caller. I swipe to take the call... and the audio for the call immediately switches away from my Bluetooth device and on to the handset. This happens with 100% consistency and is experienced across 4 different connected peripherals. It seems likely that this is an issue with an iOS configuration setting, but I've not found it yet. Any ideas please?

pressing vol. button kills ringtone on incoming call This happens with ios 16 and 17 on 2 different iphones 11. Recently, when I get a call the ring tone is a bit faint. If I press the side volume button (up or down) it stops the ring tone, but the call is still waiting to be answered. I'm sure that in the past pressing the volume button has changed the ring volume. Any one else had this problem? If yes, did you solve it and how?

Ringtone level on incoming calls When a call comes in, I hear ONE ring only. After that rings seem to be silenced. Why? Unless I have it on Do Not Disturb, I want to hear each ring loudly...not just one ring only.
