What happened to my Mac Mail account?

All of a sudden I stop receiving email. I try to sign in, unable to connect. I go to my provider's webpage & change my password, then try to sign in on Mac Mail, still "unable to verify account name or password" What gives?Same on my iPhone. I even removed the app & reinstalled, still nothing.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

Based on the little information you have provided, I will attempt to offer some thoughts which may help. First, I will assume that you have not otherwise done any other changes or installations. It sounds as if the problem may lie with your email service provider (whomever they are). I recommend that you contact their customer service people for assistance in working it out. Sometimes the solution is to first save any current email message to a local folder, then delete the account from Mail. Next, set up a new account carefully entering your ID and passwords. This will often resolve the issues.
