Can’t get yahoo mail on the Mac

Cox communications no longer provides email support and has been taken over by Yahoo. That transition worked fine on my mobile devices, but the Mac is another story. Mac mail cannot take the Yahoo account on line, and I cannot find a way to check/change the outgoing/incoming port and server settings. Mac mail works fine with my iCloud and gmail email. I can access my old cox.net emails at yahoo mail, but that is not ideal. I’m sure there are more like me to come as this transition is quite fresh. Any fixes for this? Also, why can’t I access the server and port settings for any of my accounts? Thx

I'll soon be experiencing the same thing, as I'm also a Cox Communications customer. Here's the best set of instructions on how to set this up on a Mac: How to Set Up Cox Email on Mac After Yahoo Transition.

(The "standard" Mac fixes for email issues won't work, as the Yahoo transition involves the continued use of a Cox email address in Yahoo Mail).

Why Cox couldn't be bothered to provide more detailed instructions on how to do this is beyond me, as they provided no instructions at all on how to configure third party email clients like Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.

The easiest way to fix this, and perhaps the only way, is to remove the problematic email account(s) and add them again.

Refer to If you can't send or receive email on Mac - Apple Support, and follow the instructions under "Remove your email account, then add it back".

You will probably need to choose "Yahoo!" from the finite list of available options.

Thanks for providing the forum link ... and, in turn, the actual solution. I'm sure it will help those whom Cox has "forced" transitioned their customers from Cox Mail to Yahoo Mail.

In my experience where most folks get "hung up" with adding a non-Apple email account with the Apple Mail app is when that email account's user credentials have 2FA enabled. This, in turn, requires having to generate an app specific password to be used in the Mail app that would need to be generated from the email provider's support site.

ForYahoo, I believe this is still an active link to get that password generated:

Try contacting Cox and ask them what to do. There is a contact phone number on this page:

https://www.cox.com/residential/support/email/deactivated-mailbox.html

To my knowledge adding a @yahoo.com email ought to work by selecting that option, but apparently Cox isn't making it easy for us.

Also, why can’t I access the server and port settings for any of my accounts?

I didn't answer that question because it shouldn't be required, but if it is then the only way to determine the correct settings would be to ask Cox.

And just to add to my previous reply....

Cox has stated online that, once a customer has been transitioned to Yahoo Mail, Cox will no longer provide any support whatsoever for email issues, and that email support at that point rests solely with Yahoo. (And I've yet to see any detailed Apple Mail setup procedures on Yahoo for those who've been transitioned from Cox).

For me, I'm (slowly) working thru all of my online accounts and changing my email address from xx.cox.net to xx.Mac.com. But this does take time, and more than once I've actually had to phone the company to change my email address on record. My goal, once I'm done, is to require the use of my Cox email address ONLY for communications with Cox. (Alas, because I'm one of those who has two AppleID accounts, one of which is xxx.Cox.net, it doesn't appear I can completely eliminate the need for a Cox email address).
