Accidentally made huge screen recording. Okay to delete it?

I ask if it's okay to delete it because it is in the ~/Library folder.

Safe? Need to do something first or after?

TIA!

And now it's gone! But I still have less than 1 GB Free on my 1 TB startup drive! What to do? BTW, I don't need the file.

Sorry. I should have refreshed the page first. I did check Mail, and there was nothing there for this. There is now! Thanks for chiming in!

20-25%? Isn't that excessive? I recall using Diskeeper on a VAX back in the mid 90s and the manual recommended 20%. And now, 3 decades later, with drives enormously bigger and faster and highly advanced, we're still at the 20% level?

Anyway, the problem is fixed. Apparently, I accidentally started a screen recording, and it kept going until it nearly filled the disk. Finally, it disappeared from the Library folder and was moved to the Desktop, as the OS must have decided it was done!

In both cases, I found the file using EtreCheckPro.

1 GB Free on 1 TB Drive ?

Am surprised the computer is functioning or for that matter, boot up at all.

It is generally a good computer practice to alway keep at least 20% to 25% of the Total Drive Capacity’s as Empty Space.

Allowing the computer to drop below these guidelines may eventually, cause unintended consequences.

There is Purgeable Space and there is Empty Space.

Purgeable Space which is Controlled by the Operating System.

When the Operating Systems decides the computer needs additional Empty Space, it will move a portion of the Purgeable to Empty space

AFAIK - there is no User Actions to hasten this transition from Purgeable to Empty Space

It can day or longer before this will occur.

Do get a more accurate view of Used vs Free Space

Use Disk Utilities >> View Attached Drives from the ** Menu
