Sonoma 14.4.1 making fan running & overheating - clean diagnoses from Apple Genius

Hello! Wondering if anyone here has any advice. I updated my computer to Sonoma 14.4.1 and ever since then my macbook is overheating (gets super hot), runs the fans a lot, and battery dies overnight when not plugged in -- even if it goes to sleep with a full battery. I took it to the genius bar, all diagnostics were clear and they said that my chrome tabs are possibly making the computer overheat. However, I have never had this problem before and I've only got 10 tabs open. I use the feature in chrome where it's not supposed to load pages that I'm not actively using (but for work, I need multiple tabs open!) I use other minimal programs - excel, word, slack, apple mail - maybe spotify sometimes, so should NOT be overheating my computer that is less than 4 years old. OK now I'm ranting, but has anyone found a fix for this? Apple told me to try the computer as a "new user" without Chrome or any of my programs (which will be useless to me) or back it up, wipe it and start fresh.

I know others have had this issue but so far I haven't seen any fixes.

Consider downloading and running this little "discovery" utility, Etrecheck. It changes NOTHING. Etrecheck was developed by senior contributor here, and uses system calls to collect often-needed information.

it contains little tests for speeds of devices, CPU utilization, memory usage, energy usage and a digest of recent problems, in one easy to use package. it does not even need to be Installed. Because less can be learned when your Mac is running great, best time to run is when your problems are actually occurring, if possible.

if you follow the directions faithfully, its report (pre-laundered of all personally-identifiable information) can be "Shared" to the system ClipBoard, then Pasted into an ‘Additional Text’ window in a reply on the forums.
