iMessage only showing the first letter of text messages since updating to iOS 17 (currently running 17.4.1)

I was going to remove the last update and Apple apparently has removed that option as well now.

-open it and there is no “delete update” option.

Turning the phone sideways works, but what a hassle. Went to settings/accessibility/text size/turn bold off as someone mentioned. My bold wasn’t turned on. I made the text smaller and that worked, but like many, that makes it difficult to read.

PLEASE fix this Apple. That deal out there for a Samsung is looking better and better!

I am having the same issue. Closing messaging app does not solve the problem. Restarting phone does not solve the problem. Deleting messages to free up memory does not solve the problem.

Weird and it worked for me just now when I tried this...thanks for tip and I hope this gets fixed soon...super annoying.

I have the same problem and agree with everything you said. It’s absolutely disgraceful. And it’s been happening for far too long. This happened after an iOS update well over a month ago. Just the other day 17.5.1 came out and I thought that would be the fix. NOT! I work in a hospital and it is imperative that my iMessage works as expected. It truly can be a potential life and death situation. Shame on Apple.

Having the same issue. Tried to follow some of the posts here. Seems ridiculous, but on iPhone 15, go to Settings/Display & Brightness/Select "Bold Text." This fixed the issue for me, like immediately. (I am updated to iOS 17.5.1) Good luck!

Changing the default text size or bolding the text should remedy the problem.

Is there a fix for this? I’m experiencing this too.

Unfortunately, turning off the Bold settings makes it to hard for me to read the screen, sigh…

Same problem here, for weeks! Was hoping there would be an answer here. Not going to change font size or bold. Shouldn’t have to. Problem is not ours to fix.

Yesterday I splurged and traded in my 12 pro max for a 15 pro max. I wanted to do this anyway and thought the new, more powerful phone would not suffer from this disgraceful problem. However this issue remains. How does this bug pick and choose who will be affected? I find it hard to believe there is no one consistent fix for this. Is Apple paying attention at all to this? I have two weeks before I am unable to return this phone. I’m strongly considering it. How shameful on Apple’s part.

Brand new iphone plus is doing the same thing! I got rid of my last iphone because of numerous glitches, none of which Apple support claimed to have heard of. Now my new phone wont message correctly, and i see that it is a common problem, not addressed by them.

That does not work at least for me ...., I turned off messages and bold text and it still happens .. Well at least you spoke with an APPPLE CARE person.. however if you read all the messages , it still comes back with huge 1 letter in messages

Same issue. Apple support claimed to have never heard of this. The guy had me change network settings. Then I couldn’t get calls, or connect to WiFi. They had me take it to the Apple Store the next day, and they told me that the tech had done nothing wrong, and to take it up with Tmobile and Xfinity. This made me VERY disappointed with apple. The two other providers had to use their time to correct what apple messed up. But guess what? No more text problems.
