finder keeps freezing when I connect iphone

Hi! So I recently synced my iphone se using ios 17.4.1 to my mac which is running monterey 12.7.4 and I didn't have any serious issues (my music library was a little jumbled, but that typically happens when I sync my phone). But just the other day when I synced it again to add another new album to my library, I noticed that the new albums I had added to my library from the last sync wouldn't play in my phone's music app.

The newest album played normally but not the albums from the last sync. When I'd tap the play button, either the tap doesn't register or the play button turns into a pause button as if the music is playing, but the song is stuck at 0:00. The app itself doesn't freeze altogether however; when I try to play older music or the newest album it plays normally.

So I figured I must've disconnected my phone or it otherwise didn't complete syncing when I'd synced it last.

When I connected it to my computer via usb again, I can find my iphone in the finder sidebar. But when I click on it, it pulls up the iphone summary window and it's not registering me clicking any of the buttons. For example, I can see it backing up but clicking the skip backup button does nothing. I can't switch tabs or interact with anything in the iphone window, but finder is otherwise behaving normally. I've tried to leave my phone connected for a few hours to hopefully rectify itself and download the music files properly, but a window pops up saying "Some items, including "xyz" were not copied to the iPhone because they could not be found".

That's not so unusual. That's happened when I sync my phone for years bc of a few pesky songs w missing files, and I've come to expect it. But because everything in the iphone summary window is unresponsive, I can't click ok, complete the sync, and disconnect my phone. And now, the new music from last sync and the new album are both malfunctioning on my phone. Not only will the songs not play, but now it repeatedly cycles through the names of all of the songs on the album very quickly as if I was rapidly tapping the skip button, clearly a glitch. All my older music still plays normally though.

So now I'm not sure what to do. Because the iphone window in finder's permafrozen, I can't go into the settings to skip the backup, can't turn off the setting for it to sync as soon as it's connected, or try to sync it over wifi. I'm pretty sure it's not the usb cable because I've synced my phone with it without any issue in the recent past and it charges just fine. And the music I''m trying to add is from bandcamp. It's reputable and plays normally in itunes on my mac, so I doubt the albums' files are corrupted or causing the glitch. I just wanted to get them on my phone, but now I can't even sync my phone at all.

The first issue relates to the music library on your iPhone, where newly added albums are not playing correctly in the Music app. This could potentially be due to incomplete syncing or a glitch during the sync process.

The second issue involves Finder freezing when you connect your iPhone to your Mac via USB. This prevents you from interacting with the iPhone summary window and completing the sync process, particularly when trying to skip backups or interact with any buttons in the window.

Given the complexity of the issues you're facing, it may require a combination of troubleshooting steps to resolve them. First, I would recommend restarting both your iPhone and your Mac to see if that resolves any temporary glitches or freezes. After restarting, try connecting your iPhone to your Mac again and see if Finder behaves normally.

If the issue persists, you may want to try using a different USB cable or port to rule out any potential hardware issues. Sometimes, even though a cable charges your device, it may not transfer data reliably, leading to connectivity issues.

Additionally, you can try resetting the settings on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This will revert your iPhone's settings back to their default state without affecting your data. After resetting the settings, reconnect your iPhone to your Mac and see if Finder behaves normally and if the syncing issue with the Music app is resolved.

If none of these steps resolve the issues you're experiencing, it may be helpful to contact Official Apple Support for further assistance. They can provide more personalized support and guidance based on your specific situation and may be able to offer additional troubleshooting steps or escalate the issue if necessary.
