Weather Channel app not rotating on new iPad Pro Gen 6

I gave my daughter my 11” Gen 4 iPad Pro which worked fine with the weather channel app. I purchased the newest 12.9” pro which is basically the same tablet just larger. They both have the upgraded memory and 2TB. Weather Channel does not rotate on the 12.9. That just doesn’t seem to make sense/ I’ve checked all the usual suspect issues but everything seems fine. I actually set up the new tablet using my latest backup so everything seems to be still set up the way I like it.

Any ideas? Don’t be shy. I’m pretty puzzled myself. I do like the new iPad though…Al

Weather channel in landscape is a stupid idea!

Many might argue that having an App that can only be used with the iPad is Portrait orientation is a similarly very bad idea - as anyone that is using their iPad with a folio or similar Keyboard, that can only be used in Landscape orientation (this being increasingly common with iPad), are similarly disadvantaged.

Ideally, to please all, Apps should be useable in both Landscape and Portrait orientation. Where a Developer forces an iPad to used in a single orientation, somebody will always be dissatisfied...

In such situations, you have three primary options:

1) Contact the App Developer - and constructively ask for the App to be updated to permit both screen orientations (keeping everyone happy).

2) Live with the existing limitation - accepting that this is the way that the App works.

3) Abandon the App - and possibly find an alternative.

Where Apps are paid-for or subscription-based, a loss of revenue due to purchasers/subscribers leaving the service is a good incentive for the App Developer to make changes.

I can’t believe TWC hasn’t noticed a very large number of subscribers non renewal status. They admitted they have experienced a lot of “blow back” from the change in format but felt their core users were happy with the upgrade. I know I’m not happy about it at all. I canceled and then removed the app. I’m using one from a local company that is virtually the same format as the old app.

I uninstalled mine…. I am looking for a replacement for both my iPad and iPhone…. My subscription does not end until November when it is up for renewal. I don’t think that is enough time for them to reverse this change. Regardless, there are plenty of weather apps to make a good replacement. Good luck to the rest of you and I wish you a good day!

I was checking out the Weather Channel app. this morning on my daughters hand me down (my former Gen 4 11in) as I have every morning for years in non-landscape mode or whatever it is called. I just got a new 12.9 iPad Pro so my daughter can use my 11 at school to take finals. I rarely watched it in landscape mode ever on a series of different year model iPads over the last 15 years . I am surprised the new 12.9 isn’t rotating the app., especially since the new iPad is just a big twin of her 11. They are both 2TB systems running on M2’s with iOS 17.4.1. I basically downloaded the most recent backup to the new one so they should work the same way I would think 🤔
