How can I activate my iPhone 2G in 2024?

I bought an iPhone 2G to use as an mp3 player so I can listen to music. It showed that it needed a software update and I pressed update in finder. But then when the update was complete, it went to a screen where it showed a connect to iTunes sign and the slide to unlock for emergency. It also told me that you needed a SIM card to activate it. And then I reconnect it the laptop and it said “We couldn’t continue your activation at this time” even after I put in the original SIM card that came in the box with it. I was also using finder for that. Now I’m just stuck here not knowing what to do. I’m currently running macOS 12.7.4 on my Mac. Can anyone please help me?
