Apple USB-C to USB Adapter Doesn't Work with 2024 MBP

I have a Nov 2023 Macbook pro (M3) and recently ordered an official Apple USB-C to USB Adapter from the Apple Flagship Store. However, my USB A hard-drive doesn't seem to be connecting via this adapter. On the other hand, my 3rd part USB-USB C plug is working! But of course I am a bit disappointed that the Apple one doesn't work! Any suggestions on what I should do?

Return it if it does not work.
