When updating an app, the wrong user id is required

I want to update an app on my iPad. Even tho I have made sure everything has my user id, when I try to update the app, it requires my husbands id even tho he has never used my iPad.

iPad mini 6, iPadOS 17

Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that downloaded them originally.

If its asking for your husband's Apple ID, it means it was downloaded with it.

This means your husband was at some point signed in to that iPad with his Apple ID, at least under Settings ➜ Apple ID ➜ Media & Purchases or the iPad was setup using a backup from a device he was signed into. As such any apps that were downloaded to the device the backup used was from would be tied to his Apple ID.

You would need to delete it from your iPad, and download it again with your own Apple ID. This is the only way to stop it from requiring your husband's Apple ID.

He has never played games (this is for an app that is a game) so he didn't download it. I bought an iPad years ago that was not set up using his iPad, I started from scratch, and my newer and current iPad was set up from that one, not a backup from his. So I have no idea how his id was associated with it. You are saying that there is no way to replace his ID with mine on this game? Which is interesting, because I'm pretty sure that I have updated this game before... I didn't want to delete and reinstall, since that would mean deleting all the various levels I have passed over several years. I did ask him for his current password and was able to update the app with it. Not what I wanted but it worked.
