My iPhone 11 Pro Max screen went black when on a FaceTime call

I was on a facetime call so normally if an object or if something is close to the camera or is it a sensor(?)of your iphone it would go black right? However, when my dog brushed up against my phone it went black. Understandable. But after a while, it was still black. I tried pushing the power button, tapping the screen and even trying to hold the power button but none of them work. I could hear the call was still on going and said he could still see and hear me. After a while it went back to the facetime screen. This happens frequently. Is thisbecause I updated my software? My phone’s an iPhone 11 Pro Max and currently on IOS 17.0.3
