Swipe gestures work differently in every app

Hello! I have exactly the same issue described here. This is my first iPhone (and the last one), how can I standardize this action, please?

“The inconsistency while swiping right from the left edge (as a back button) is very annoying. On Android, there is only one consistent behavior for that gesture (and it works both from the left and right edges so we can use the phone with just one hand) - and that is to go back to the previous page. Works the same on every app and you can navigate all the way back to the home screen of your phone with just that one gesture alone.

But on my iPhone it's completely random. Sometimes it would work, at other times it won't and I would have to use swipe up gesture instead to go back a page inside an app (most common when you open a pic) and on yet other times, both those options don't work and I am forced to reach for the Top left arrow on the screen to go back. It's frustrating to try and remember different gestures for each app.”

Finding the perfect phone is like finding your perfect outfit - it depends on what you need and what makes you feel good!

Here's why:

  • Budget: Just like with clothes, there are phones for every price range.
  • Features: Do you need a camera that rivals a pro photographer, or a battery that lasts all weekend? Phones offer a variety of features to fit your lifestyle.
  • Style: Do you love the latest trends, or prefer something classic? Phones come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
  • Ease of Use: Is navigating menus a breeze, or do you get frustrated? Choose a phone that's user-friendly.
  • Security: Keeping your data safe is important. Consider brands known for strong security features.
  • And More! Think warranty, service, resale value, and even the brand's reputation for innovation.

So, take your time and pick a phone that perfectly suits YOU!

I get it, coming from Android, you're used to swiping back, but iPhones work a bit differently. Here's how to handle the back button on your iPhone 14 Plus:

  1. Swipe Right: To go back, just swipe from the left edge of the screen towards the right. It's like what you did on Android.
  2. Sometimes It's Tricky:
    1. Apps Can Do Their Own Thing: Some apps have their own rules for swiping back, which can be annoying. You might have to figure out each app's way.
    2. When Content Gets in the Way: If what you're looking at goes all the way to the left, your swipe might not work. Try starting your swipe a bit higher.
  3. Other Ways to Go Back:
    1. Swipe Up: Sometimes, swiping up from the bottom can do the trick, especially in certain apps.
    2. Look for a Back Button: Some apps have a little button in the top left corner to go back.
  4. You Can't Change Everything:
  5. iPhones don't let you change how the back button works for everything. So, you gotta adapt to what's there.

Tips:

  • Practice the Swipe: The more you do it, the easier it gets.
  • Check Each App: Different apps might need different moves to go back.

It might feel weird at first, but you'll get the hang of it on your iPhone 14 Plus!
