Macbook Air M2 15 inch unresponsive mouse and keyboard

Something has been strange in my MacBook Air 15 inch since I bought it, I am not sure it is a hardware problem as it occurred the first time already on day one, on the day it was bought in and around the release date of in June 5, 2023.

The computer freezes for absolutely no reason and at random occasions. Sometimes it is the keyboard that goes bananas (see recorded video here) other times it is the mouse that stops responding and the click functionality stops working or it behaves like it got a hiccup (see recorded video here).

The behavior is very strange for a computer with M2 processor and 32 Gb memory.

Even after a forced restart, the issue comes back. Then randomly after a few times of restarts, it goes away.

However, this time the computer is totally dead, after each restar, and as soon as the screen is on, the mouse stops respond, which at moment has made my expensive MacBook more or less worthless and like a piece of garbage.

Not sure what todo this time?

Try and boot the Mac into the safe mode to see if the issues persist. You might need an external mouse and keyboard for this proceedings

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
Select a volume.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

I had the same problem with a new 15-inch Macbook air purchased in June 2024. The mouse was variably unresponsive and jerky from the moment I first used the computer. Sometime it was marginally usable, but generally not usable at all ... it would jerk and freeze. I was using an ELECOM M-KS1DBS wireless mouse with the old-style USB connector that has to be connected to the laptop. I assume it is a USB3 type, but I'm a little shaky on the types. It's the same old type I've been using for years. Fortunately, by chance, I happened to have a new Yamaha Select wireless mouse that came with a double connector ... USB3 (old type) on one side and what I assume is USB4 on the other ... smaller prong with rounded edges. I plugged the newer type of connector directly into one of the two ports on the laptop, and this solved the problem completely. The mouse cursor moves as smooth as silk! So, basically, all the stuff I just read on the internet trying to treat this problem as a software incompatibility problem, or as my new computer having some sort of senile dementia related to booting, was wrong ... it seems to be a hardware problem. Or maybe a software problem that was cured by changing hardware. As you can see, I'm not an expert, but the problem was solved very simply and completely by changing the mouse and its mode of connection.

I did try restarting in safe mode. Even that was a challenge as the mouse was quick to become unresponsive at the screen to choose a startup mode and it became impossible to even click the startup disk icon.

In any case, I’ve managed to get my computer running in safe mode, but not even that helped. Same issue, after a few seconds the click functionality stop working.

My MacBook is not functional anymore and I am not sure what to do after trying what normally should help.
