Phone keeps asking me to sign in to facetime when I call one contact who is family

Everytime I click the facetime icon or audio icon to call my son, it asks me to sign into facetime. I am signed in. I also singed out and in again and it still does it. If I go directly to the contact it allows me to call but not from messages. If I click the facetime image and select facetime audio of video it says I need to sign in. I restarted the phone, singned out and in which is a hassle, and also signed out of face time and signed back in. I recently updated to 17.4.1 from iOS 15.6 on iphone 11 pro.
