Audio Jack on MacBook Air for Recording

I have a 2022 MacBook Air 13" M1 and I want to record audio to it using the audio jack by plugging in a microphone. I can't seem to find a way to adjust the settings to allow the Air to use anything other than the built-in microphone. Ideally, I could use this to record into Garage Band but, any other stereo app would work. The key is stereo recording. Please help.

You should purchase an audio interface with dual microphone inputs which can digitally interface to the mac using the USBC port. You will get a better recording with a greater number of bits and a higher sampling rate than what is available from the mono audio input port on the mac. That audio port is only good for video (e.g., zoom) meetings with a headset that includes a microphone.
