How to customise wake-up settings for MacBook Pro M2 Max and Apple Studio display

I have a 2023 14-inch MacBook Pro M2 Max and the 27-inch Apple Studio Display. When I'm at home and the MBP is connected to the Display, I'd like to not have to use password to wake the system up. I have the MBP closed when connected,(touch ID not exposed) so the system will act like my old 27-inch iMac and I can just click the mouse and the system wakes up and is ready.

Any ideas?

My recommendation is to turn OFF "Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off"

I don't think that refers to turning off an external display.

Then when you go out into the world, do not leave your MacBook Pro unattended, EVER. -OR-

...enable 'Fast User Switching', and when you need to step away from your Mac, begin the switch to another user, as described here:

Switch quickly between users on Mac - Apple Support

if, instead of literally choosing another User, you choose 'Login Window' off that menuBar icon list, it will hide your current windows and present a new login screen. Now your Mac is locked up tight. Even returning to your original User requires a password.

Require a password after waking your Mac - Apple Support

Explains how and when you can set this setting. You can adjust it before you move around.

Keep in mind these settings may not be able to be controlled if your Mac is under a school/company control with a mobile device management utility. In such cases, or when you aren't the admin user of the computer, you'll need an admin account to allow such control

Thanks for the reply. Basically, I want the MBP to recognize when the Display is connected and adjust the password requirement accordingly.

I want to have no password required when I'm at home and the MBP is connected to the Display. When I disconnect the Display and take the MBP out, I do want the password protection.

I'm trying to recreate the 27-inch iMac experience. Since the iMac never left the house, having a password was not required to awake at start using. Since Apple stopped selling the 27-inch iMac, I tried to recreate the system by purchasing the MBP and the Apple Display.

I do want the system to sleep when I'm not using, but not have to enter password when at home.
