Question about iPhone and lost passcode

HI. If a person A was given an iPhone, and the person B who gave the iPhone does not remember the passcode set, and person A is not able to enter the iPhone, and A and B live far away from each other, and the iPhone is not connected to the internet, in order to be able to enter the iPhone will person A need to restore the iPhone using itunes on a PC following the available directions? My understanding is yes.

The iPhone may still be associated with person's B Apple account in Find my devices.

If that is true, and person B removes the device from her account, can person A restore the iPhone and then log into the device with her own Apple account? Will she be able to activate it?

Thank you.

So to remove the device the person B can log into their icloud apple account for example and go to Find My and then just remove by clicking "remove device" and this should be enough to allow the person A to then do the restore, and then be able to immediately enter their own apple id credentials and set up the phone.

Yes, if the phone is not locked to any carrier, is not "gray listed" (meaning the phone cannot be used because the owner has not paid their bills), or is not "black listed" (meaning the phone has not been reported as stolen).

Unless Person B no longer has the phone, I don't understand why Person B cannot erase the phone, remove it from their Apple account, and then give it to you. The phone will display a "hello" screen when this has occurred.

But.....make sure that the phone is not still locked to Person B's carrier. If it is, and you try to set up the phone with the carrier, you still won't be able to use the phone.

Carriers will not unlock a phone automatically. The customer must request that the phone be unlocked after meeting the unlocking requirements.

Person B will need to remove the phone from their account.....before....you attempt to set up the phone again after it has been erased.

If the phone is not removed from B's account, then you will very likely run into an Activation Lock issue on the phone when you try to set it up, which will ask for Person B's Apple ID and Apple ID Password.

Hopefully, Person B's account with the cellular carrier is up to date and the phone is not still locked to the original carrier. If either of these things are present, Person B will need to clear up their account with the carrier and ask them to unlock the phone, so that it can be used by another person.

I would never buy a used phone from anyone unless I knew them well and they have agreed in advance to refund my money if there is anything wrong with the phone. Great advice from iPhone expert lobsterghost1 here:

Hi Bob. Thank you. It wasn't bought. It was family gift.

So to remove the device the person B can log into their icloud apple account for example and go to Find My and then just remove by clicking "remove this device" and this should be enough to allow the person A to then do the restore, and then be able to immediately enter their own apple id credentials and set up the phone and be able to activate it?

This image is just an example. I assume the device will be offline.

Quick follow up question. I know you can remove device from Find My on persons B apple account and that should allow the phone to be restored and set up by the person A.

But what if instead of removing device from Find My of person B account, you removed the account of the device from the apple id settings of person B. From Settings/Apple ID/Device/Remove account?

Could you do that or must you remove device from Find MY so the new person A can restore/set up and activate?

Thanks!
