Hyperlinks Not Working in free Outlook

I’ve been using the free version of Outlook for 20+ years and I’ve run into a new problem. Last week hyperlinks suddenly stopped working. It can be an actual link/url spelled out or it can be an email that I’ve received from a company or organization that I normally deal with that you click on an image which normally takes you to that product, article, forum, etc. I realize that they are all links or hyperlinks but I mention it because even the most simple links no longer work.

This is occurring on two different iPad Pro’s. iPad Pro 9.7” and 10.5”. Both are running Safari, both have the latest iOS. Access to Outlook is through Safari, not the Outlook app. Each iPad is using a separate email account.

I also have two iPhone 11’s, each with the same email accounts as the iPads. Outlook is typically accessed through the Outlook app on both phones. Hyperlinks working on both. I also tried accessing Outlook through Safari on the iPhones and hyperlinks worked.

Accessing Outlook from a PC via Firefox or Chrome, hyperlinks work fine.

I have not tried accessing Outlook on the iPads via the Outlook app. I’d prefer to continue to access via Safari as I’ve done on both of these iPads for about 7 years now without any issues.

So, at first I thought that this was an Outlook problem but it looks to me like an iPad or Safari problem. I’ve also posted this on the Microsoft Community but I figured I can’t be the only one with this problem so I’m posting here as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem on my ipad pro 12.9. Just started beginning of June.

It turns out that safari has decided that any link in outlook is to be treated as a popup, instead of legitimate link.

For now, the only solution is to turn off pop-up blocking, which then provides you a warning and option to open the link from within outlook.live in your browser.

It is a shame that Apple seems unable to distinguish the difference between a link and a pop-up, ONLY within outlook.live, although it may be temporary due a security issue they are attempting to lock down in Safari.

The good news is that Chrome, or other Browsers do not have that problem, so although I really LIKE Safari, and don’t want to give up using my iPad Pro for work, (which I LOVE), I will have to switch to another browser until this gets resolved.

I hope this helps

I LOVE my iPad Pro
