Why is my Apple Pencil lagging in Procreate on iPad Pro?

My apple pencil pro is lagging on initial touch to the ipad surface in procreate drawing canvas. If I have the pencil pro off the surface and try to touch it and draw a quick circle, the screen draws after I am already done with the circle. If I place the tip onto the surface of the ipad and wait a second or so, I can draw a circle in real time without lag. I can draw a circle from off the surface with my finger instead of the pencil, with no lag. I can draw in the notes app with no lag. I can touch ui elements in procreate with the pencil without lag.

It definitely is acting like procreate needs to update their software, weren't they on stage with you touting the m4 ipads and how great they are for procreate? This is feeling like an expensive fail on my part.

I tried to forget the bluetooth device for the pencil pro then reconnect it. If there are any additional HW fix attempts I can try, please let me know.

My 10.5" pro and apple pencil 1 did not do any of this.

I also have this problem. I tried all the fixes on this thread and none of it worked. I realized that I initially connected my pencil pro to my iPad Air through the thin plastic of the top edge of my aftermarket case. I tried connecting to my pencil to my iPad without the case and it worked.

I have a new M4 iPad Pro (13”) with the new Pencil.

I have followed the advice of some of the other posters and turned off the Accessibility Zoom function, which remedied the pencil lag that was occurring. How strange.

But if I scribble fast with the Pencil in Procreate, at some point (usually quite quickly) the whole system becomes jerky and unresponsive, until I force quit Procreate.

Something quite wrong is happening here.

I have the same issue, which is upsetting, as I got the iPad exclusively for digital art. The lag occurs for me in Procreate and Adobe Fresco. And, often during a drawing, the pencil stops working as a brush altogether, making no marks. After a while, it works again.

I took the M4 iPad Pro to the Apple Store and they tried it with one of their pencils. Same issues. So they concluded it was the iPad, not the Apple Pencil Pro. The gave me a replacement iPad. I just finished setting it up, and it too has the pencil lag.

Ensure that you have updated your new iPad Pro M4 to iPadOS 17.5.

Consider that any Apps that may have been briefly showcased during Apple's recent event will have been using beta software - either by iPadOS, App, or both - and will have been carefully "staged" for the presentation.

Given that many Developers will not yet have had opportunity to test their Apps with the new iPad hardware and updated version of iPadOS, you might reasonably anticipate that many Apps will not yet be optimised for the new models of iPad.

I don't use Procreate - I use GoodNotes and for other markups I use the PDF viewer built into Files App. Both apps work fine for a while, then both exhibit MASSIVE lagging when using the Pencil Pro now. I've had to resort to ~daily rebooting the iPad Pro (13") to fix the lagging when it reoccurs. I had previously enabled the zoom functionality, but when I disabled it the problem remains. I've rebooted again and let's see if the lag stays gone.

Hi. Glad to see it's not just me having this problem. Recently I've had dreams start lagging too. The fix for me was not a fun one and it didn't last forever.

I had to reset all my OS settings. That did work for a while but the issue is back after a few months. I'm thinking to do it again but that forgets everything and figuring out why my iPad isn't reacting how I want it too because there was some setting I needed to re-customize is really annoying. Especially since it takes off all ApplePay cards but it did work for a while. I've been trying to pay Attention to if something changed after I turned on a particular setting, but I haven’t been able to figure it out.

also, I actually do use Zoom on the regular and after resetting the settings and enabling Zoom, it was fine. I think Zoom is part of the problem, but not the whole thing.
