AirPlay Display Underscan Not Working

So I tried AirPlaying from my MacBook Air to my Apple TV 4K and noticed the screen was cut off. I did some digging and found out that I needed to turn on AirPlay Display Underscan. I do the whole thing and find that it’s already on. I turn it off, nothing changes. I turn it to auto, nothing changes. I turn it back to on and still, nothing changes. I don’t know what’s wrong. I don’t know if my MacBook is too out of date, or if my Apple TV is bugging, it just doesn’t want to work. My MacBook Air is a 2013 Air that runs Big Sur. That might be the issue, but if it isn’t, I got nothing. If anyone has a fix for this, please tell me.

The native screen resolution of the MacBook Air 11" 2013 is 1366×768, which translates to a screen aspect ratio of 16:9 — the same as AirPlay screen mirroring would use for output. That is why you wouldn’t see a difference between underscan On or Off or Auto: for a perfect match in aspect ratio, there is no underscan.

I noticed the screen was cut off.

Exactly how was it cut off? What part(s) was (were) cut off?

Did you see this effect for the Mac Desktop, or for a specific app or content or document?

On what kind of screen was Apple TV displaying the Mac screen? A 16:9 TV, or perhaps a projector?

Some TVs/screens may use overscan (scaling beyond the edge) [to hide analog video artifacts]. If that happens, then you may need to adjust the overscan setting on the TV/screen. There may be a setting for “PC use”, to reflect “no overscan”. That wouldn’t be adjustable on Mac or Apple TV.

I use a 16:9 aspect ratio TV and the whole screen was cut off by just a little bit. I thought if I turned on underscan, then it would fix it, but nothing changed. The screen on my Mac stayed the same the entire time

I don’t know if I can do that on my TV at all

All I can remember off of the top of my head is it’s an LG OLED ThinQ 65 B_ I don’t remember the other letter and if you want to get technical, it’s one of the OLED ThinQ’s with the little headphone jack thing in the back to make it possible to use multiple devices with the red, white, and yellow input and/or output with a receiver. I doubt that would change anything about it, but it’s worth mentioning

How to find my LG model and serial number - LG Support

The model and serial number will be located on the back of your LG TV. Depending on when the TV was manufactured, the label may be on either the back right or back left of the unit.

Adittionaly, on 2018 models or newer with the TV turned on, press the MUTE button 3 times in a row on the LG Remote and the model information will be displayed.

On older models press the HOME button > select Settings (or Setup) > select Support menu > highlight Product/Service Info > press OK button.

I don’t know if I can do that on my TV at all

If you mention the brand and model number, then maybe we can find an online manual that has some information on that?
