Is it normal for my new iPad Pro to drain 5% charge with normal use?

I got myself the new IPad Pro M4 13-inch (512Gb) this week, and it feels like the battery is draining really quickly. Went down 5% in just 15 minutes using standard apps like Outlook and Pages. Overnight it also lost 5%, with background activity being switched off as well as “Find My” being switched off. Currently running iOS 17.5.

Anyone else been experiencing the same? There are so many great reviews talking about the battery life of this new iPad, but the experience is proving otherwise?

Hello Mljy,

I put my newly loved iPad in a case right when it was out of the box. It might have turned on when I plugged it it but the case was closed, so... I also put a screen protection before it was on, easier this way :)

My M4 iPad Pro has terrible battery life. With NO apps open it loses 1% every couple of minutes. No location services, no background app refresh, low brightness. I know part of it is when it is attached to the Magic Keyboard. Still, even not attached it is awful.

I’m certain that I’ll buy it just because it’s new and I never had a iPad before and I’ll only use it for watching videos and social media and play some light gameslol. The air bezel is thick and I don’t like it so I’ll go for the m4 pro 11 inch…😂

No, it's probably not worth it for such basic use. Buy the iPad Air or the iPad. Both are excellent devices for light usage.

On my M4 11, battery usage is going very fast. Ipad gets quit hot as well.

My M4 11" was at 80% when I went to sleep and this morning it was totally flat. Only has 2 cycles on the battery from when I picked it up on Wednesday.

I also have lost about 10 percent battery drain with nothing running overnight. Something is not right here.

I also have the same impression. The battery of my 11-inch iPad Pro M4 drops similarly to my old iPad Air 4 (no battery changed). I was expected to hold more.

Agreed, it is shockingly bad, i made the decision to return mine, which is disappointing. But this horrific bad battery life is making it a subpar product.

Yes, I too faced battery draining problem in iPad Pro 11 2024. In standby also battery is draining 15-20% overnight. Performance of iPad Air M1 was far better.

Update: as predicted by several on this string, my pro M4 has settled right down and is now giving me great battery life. Happy with purchase.
