Is it normal for my new iPad Pro to drain 5% charge with normal use?

I got myself the new IPad Pro M4 13-inch (512Gb) this week, and it feels like the battery is draining really quickly. Went down 5% in just 15 minutes using standard apps like Outlook and Pages. Overnight it also lost 5%, with background activity being switched off as well as “Find My” being switched off. Currently running iOS 17.5.

Anyone else been experiencing the same? There are so many great reviews talking about the battery life of this new iPad, but the experience is proving otherwise?

Thanks for the thought, iSamuelle, but I just dropped nearly $2000 on this thing. I should not have to dim the incredible screen and turn off all the various other features that sold it to me in the first place (via Low Power Mode) just to get reasonable duration out of a charge. That’s just ridiculous and Apple ought to know it! I get great duration out of my iPhone without the need to turn it into a glorified Nokia from the 1990s and I expect the same from a brand-new “Pro” iPad.

While I am glad to know I am not the only one with this problem, it is very disheartening to see considering how much people have payed for these devices. I had my 13” Pro plugged in since last night yet when I unplugged it this morning and immediately went to use it the thing was at only 97% and I have lost 2% just while typing this out. Very disappointed and am hoping there is a fix for the drainage issue soon.

Oh I know latest and greatest tech is my kryptonite. Also the battery drain isn’t like holy it’s just slightly faster but it’s also like i said new. Here’s mine there might be ppl out there with some crazy drain but either they got a dud or they just don’t know what they doing lol and my drop was from usage there is no phantom drain issue on my unit. So don’t be discouraged also obviously mine is the 11in you’ll prob get better results on a 13in.

I feel like it’s somewhat a waste of money if I buy it and used it for only watching videos, browsing the web and social media lol. I recently (3 weeks ago) got a monitor, pc and speaker to do all those things because I want a nice set up in my room lol. So now I really dk if I want to buy or not. If it’s you, what’s your take and decision on it?

I did the exact same thing except mine was gaming laptop setup with monitors but I like using the iPad for drawing and mobility plus I use it for zoom or teams calls as my gaming laptop camera is not good and I like the center stage. I wanted the iPad so got it I also like having new tech and I felt getting it now was a worth while upgrade and in my case Canadian it cost me 1300$ do I regret it nope cause that’s what I paid six years ago for my 12.9 so might as well future proof myself now vs when they get more expensive later. Plus if you use it for editing, on the go emails, drawing, document scanning or like a discord sidecar it’s got its uses and I like the portability it’s not a laptop replacement at 11 in it’s productivity enhancement. And the future ai stuff looks useful whenever we get full access to it all.

So I'd say that I'm pretty happy with the autonomy so far. I will let the battery drain till 10% is left, then a full load. And then I will try to do the 20-80 charge.

There's no reason to let it run out to 10%. It won't help or hurt anything to do so. You can charge it at any time.

You fully charged it before turning it on? I thought when you plug the cable in the device will automatically boot up?

It will turn on when you plug it in. However, you can then turn it off again and it will stay turned off until you start it again (or until there is an interruption in the power supply). There's not really a whole lot to be gained by doing that, though.

Honestly No you’d be fine with the air the question really is and this is how you should do any purchase is it something you REALLY want personally or cause it’s shiny and new lol? because the better screen resolution the deeper blacks visually content will be great it’s more power then you’ll need but if you want the best you go pro if you want power and money savings you go air will you notice the 120hz missing on air probably not you’ll get used to the 60 it’s a matter of what you want more me I’m a tech head I love the newest but I upgraded from a 2018 so it was a upgrade if you already have a m1 or m2 you don’t need a new iPad. Only reason you get new is cause you want it or it’s a genuine upgrade pencil pro only works with new ones and new iai features are for m series and latest 15 series iPhones. It’s all your personal preference and how bad you want something.
