Charging/PD - iPad Pro 11” 2024 on its own or Though A PD hub with SSD or USB pen drive

What is the required wattage for charging the new iPad Pro 11” 2024, it comes with just a cable but no power brick! I need to get one and want to make sure I get what I need rather than too little or too much.

It will be connected either direct to the iPad for charging or connected to a PD hub which will need power for the likes of a SSD, USB flash drive, SD card reader on the hub, and maybe a connected HDMI cable but that just happens to be on the hub, I primarily wanted the sd card reader (for files not photos) and usb c and a connections for SSD or USB thumb or external hard drives.

what sort of wattage, there are so many, so if I make sure I get the correct wattage I’ve more chance of not making a mistake….again! I’ve already returned one as it turned out to weigh a ton and kept falling out of the socket!

it must be portable and with folding prongs to keep the iPad safe when In The carry case.

Any advice would be appreciated.

i miss the days when iPads and iPhones came with the required power plug, much more useful than silly headphones! You can’t change a device with headphones in regards to the iPhone and the iPads great it came with a cable but without the plug part it’s impossible to charge!

thanks

While your iPad requires a Power Adapter that can supply at least 12W, you would be best advised to consider a USB-C Power Adapter that can output 20W or greater. Outside of the Europe, in countries that Apple still include a Power Adapter, most models of iPad are supplied with an Apple 20 USB-C Power Adapter.

If intending to use the iPad with a USB-C hub and connected USB devices as described, a more powerful Power Adapter provides a greater power-budget to power the hub (typically requires 5-10W), connected devices - and the iPad while charging. As such, as a practical minimum, 30W (or greater) might be a good choice.

All Apple USB-C Power Adapters support USB PD (Power Delivery). If purchasing a third-party Power Adapter, ensure that it supports USB PD. Apple devices do not support proprietary charging standards - such as QC (Quick Charge).

Apple's 20W USB-C Power Adapters generally have a folding prongs - but more powerful versions usually have a removable duck-head that matches the AC-mains supply in the country of purchase. Some will connect the Power Adapter to AC-mains using a conventional AC power-cable.

Speaking for myself, I currently use a Mophie Speedport 120W:

Thank you LotusPilot, I wish I’d posted this before getting my “in house” plug! I would have got a better option! For the house I have a Anker 65w plug pd complient with 2 usb c and a usb a as I need a usb a in the plug to charge a “moon lamp” as I have just one socket, sadly I didn’t see a usb a and used c apple plug on apples site! Was a recommendation on utube by apple iPad pro user. I’d forgotten about this community! I will check out the 2 you recommend.

happy to know what to look for. It gives me clarity as there isn’t info on the apple site, that is obvious - would be neat if they said exactly what to look for. The U.K. is outside Europe but no plug which is silly! I had to buy one so it was here in time for the delivery. All my apple ones are usb an and cables all lightning! Of course!

thank you for the help it’s appreciated

You are very welcome.

For a small "carry around" Power Adapter that occupies minimum space, Apple's 20W USB-C Power Adapter (with folding prongs to avoid damage when not in use) is a really good choice.

While I use the mentioned Mophie 120W USB-C Power Adapter at my desk with USB-C hub and connected peripherals, I don't routinely carry this with me. That said, while away from a source of AC-mains, I do carry a mophie USB-C Power Bank (26,000mAh).

😂😂 that explains a lot 😂😂 shows how much I understand politics!! I do appreciate the info, I hadn't actually realised that after the brexit confusion we were still in Europe but outside the European Union….it gets ever more complicated! Explains why I can never find U.K. on websites bet it still hides under the European title 😂😂😂😂 I really have had one of those days today, when pain makes me need a…..“Idiots guide to…” but hey I can laugh at myself and learn!

thanks for the help, next job on my list order a “carry about” plug!
